Initial impressions
Okay, this isn’t a complaining post, but I’m just going to give my initial impressions of Atlantis.
It’s really not very nice. I’m comparing this to the other WPT event locations I’ve been to recently: Foxwoods and Bellagio. The room service is terrible and slow. The rooms aren’t nice, at least in the Coral Towers. Wireless internet is only available in the lobby (I’m sitting at a table with Shane typing this out). Meanwhile, they’re playing some annoying music pretty loudly about 15 feet away.
Another issue is the PokerStars meal plan. No one really knows what is going on with it. Apparently, there are certain restaurants that we can eat at during certain hours that qualify for the meal plan. However, we supposedly just give our room number and then PokerStars will pick up the tab automatically. No one actually believes that will happen. It’s just about a certainty that everyone will have to fight to get things taken off their room bill when they checkout.
The overall service level in the hotel is poor and kinda funny/useless. For instance, just as we woke up this morning, a hotel service person showed up to check our bar in our room to see if we’d taken anything. One issue: it’s locked. You need to go to the front desk to get the key to your bar… and we hadn’t done that. Therefore, there’s no way we could have taken anything. The guy could probably save a few hours each day by getting a list of rooms with the keys out and then only check those rooms. It would also prevent disturbing guests unnecessarily.
Anyway, the poker tournament seems great. The Stars staff has been very helpful and they seem friendly.
I’ll be back with some chipcounts in a few minutes.
