Interview with Ozzy 87/bigslick789

When did you start playing poker?

In the summer of 2004.

How’d you get started?

My friend transferred me $50 on Stars, I gave him cash and I quickly lost that. I ended up losing $500 before I started winning. In terms of games, I started with $5 STTs and $1-$3 MTTs. I did well in some MTTs and built up to 10K, then started playing 5/10 NL on a short roll in January 2005 and quickly took off.

How’d you get so good so fast?

I spend a lot of time every day playing poker. Also, I concentrate on all games and I learned to play less tables before moving up to more tables. Also, I didn’t read forums much as I don’t learn much there, but I would often chat with peers on AIM/MSN to try to get better.

Are you in school?

I just graduated from high school this past summer. I’m taking this year off to play poker, travel and have fun. I plan on going to college next fall, but I’m not sure where. University of Houston, University of Texas-Austin and USC are all possibilities.

What’s the biggest pot you’ve ever won?

I won a $55K pot against Mahatma in 50/100 NL with KK against his J high. Mahatma bluffed all in on the river. I had a set of Ks.

What’s the biggest pot you’ve lost?

A few 40Kish pots on 50/100 NL on UB and Prima. I also lost a 40K pot last night when I tried to bluff someone who held a very good hand. Oh wait, I lost a 50K pot in 100/200nl against Zweig with TT against his 22 in a blind v blind and he flopped a set.

Who is your toughest opponent at high limit cash games?

Probably Mahatma. He’s very tough to play against as he’s very aggressive and he’s very unpredictable.

Who are your toughest opponents in MTTs?

JohnnyBax is a very good player. Same with BeL0WaB0Ve. Michael1123 is one of the toughest MTT players I’ve faced. Sheets is hard to handle. Colson10 has a very solid game and he knows his opponents well. There are definitely some other tough ones out there as well.

What are poker goals for 2006?

I’d like to play at least 60 hours per week. I also want to become the most successful online poker player in the world in 2006. I want to be the person that no one wants to play. For instance, I want to sit in a 5K HU on Stars for an hour without anyone sitting with me (like Lars-Magne).

For live, I’d like to do well in some of the events that I’m playing in. I’m playing in the PCA, Aruba, Monte Carlo, etc. I’m not sure about my live schedule for the year.

What is your advice for new players/struggling players?

One of the most important qualities in a winning player is to control tilt. You have to accept that it’s not possible to win all the time. No matter how good you play, you’ll lose sometimes. Get over it.

I’d also like to remind people that if they’d like to unload their W$/T$, I’m willing to take them off your hands at PSDollars.
