Interview with ZeeJustin

If you want to read about ZJ’s poker background, take a look at his site ZeeJustin.com

What are your non-poker interests these days?

Other than poker, music is my passion. I’ve been to over 100 concerts.

What are your favorite bands?

Our Lady Peace, Muse, Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins. I like a lot of other bands too, but those six are my favorite.

You’re originally from the DC-area, where are you living now?

I’ve been living in LA for the past 7 months.

How do you like it?

I love it. The weather is great all-year round, the girls are beautiful and there are a ton of great places to eat.

Do you plan on staying out there for the foreseeable future?

Yes, but there’s a chance I’ll move to Vegas when I turn 21 next September but unless I do that, I’ll stay in LA for a long time to come.

Are you going to rely exclusively on poker for income? Or do you have outside projects going on?

I have sources of income outside of playing poker, but they all involved poker indirectly. For instance, through my site ZeeJustin.com I offer rakeback and I also do a lot of writing about poker. Hopefully in the near future I’ll be putting a book out.

What does your live schedule look like this year?

To be honest, it’s up in the air at this point. There are a bunch of good tournaments in Europe coming up, but I’m just sick of all the traveling and the jet lag. I’m just going to play it by ear and see how I feel as they get closer.

Do you plan on doing any more STT challenges (see here)? Or something similar?

Hopefully not. The main reason I did that was because I had just gone on a 60K downswing while travelling in Europe playing 10K events. I wanted a low variance source of income and STTs were just the trick to rebuild my confidence.

Out of all your poker articles, what do you think you’d recommend to inexperienced players?

I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback on the article “Inside My Tournament Game” It really helps you get a feel for what you should be thinking about at the table.

Lastly, what do you attribute your success to?

I think I’ve had a lot of success because I’ve always studied the game vigorously. The key to poker is always trying to improve your play and as long as you are still learning there’s nowhere to go but up.
