stealthmunk, a student from Connecticut, took down the PokerStars $1 Million Guaranteed $500+$30 tournament last night. While he technically got 2nd, he chopped three handed with a huge chiplead.
Here are the original payouts for top 3:
1. $195,976
2. $119,472
3. $69,168
Here are the chopped payouts, in order of finish:
1. lobojiji (Buenos Aires, Argentina) $85,411.71 + $30,000 (forced to leave $30K on the table to play for)
2. stealthmunk (Orange, CT) $170,000.00
3. T_Mac (Toronto, ON, Canada) $99,204.29
So as you can see, stealthmunk got the better of the other two players in the deal. In fact, if he won, he would have gotten more than what first place would have originally paid out. And he was guaranteeing himself $50K more than 2nd.
So how did this happen? Only three days ago, stealthmunk posted on P5s about how he “lost the last of [his] bankroll to stevesbets.” As he tells me, he only had $1K to his name a month ago after a bad trip to Turning Stone, then he picked up some expensive speeding tickets on top of that. The last month, however, has been mostly good to him. He went on a 30K rush during a 4 day period, including some high stakes heads up SNGs. After going 1 and 1 with stevesbets in two 5K HU matches, he cashed out all of his winnings. He borrowed $2K from a friend on Saturday to play the weekend tournaments and as you know, he scored big on Sunday. His post-tournament celebration consisted of McDonalds for him and his friends… his treat.
