Cayuga Lake

In case you’re not familiar with the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, there are a few long vertical (north-south) lakes a bit south of Lake Ontario that look roughly like fingers. The two biggest lakes are Seneca and Cayuga, with Cayuga being to the east. At the southern tip of Cayuga is the town of Ithaca, which is the home of Cornell University and Ithaca College. A number of my family members have attended Cornell… the latest person being my sister, who is graduating this weekend.

Around the time I was born, my family bought a lake house about 15 miles up the east side of the lake. As it doesn’t get used very often these days, I think it’s going to be sold. Anyway, my sister asked a bunch of her friends to come out on Thursday night to a BBQ at the lake house. As I enjoy going to the lake house and I didn’t have much else to do in Ithaca, I decided to go up there with them.

I grabbed a bunch of pictures:

Standing on one of our docks looking south, my sister on the left, her friend on the right
Standing on the porch of the house looking down at the lake, a few people getting the grill ready
We have fire…. :-)
This is looking north on the Conrail rail line. There is a rail line that separates lake houses from the beach along the east side of the lake. The line feeds the Milliken power plant, which is located about halfway up the east side of the lake.
On the steps down to the lake, looking at one of our docks. The other side of the lake is about one mile away.
Looking west-ish in this picture… this is the same dock.
My sister on the left, PokerStars on the right. And the sunset over the lake behind my computer.
More people had arrived (there were also people watching the grill up the hill)
Looking at our other dock, north on the lake
This was taken by one of my sister’s friends. I am sitting on the dock… like third from the right or somewhere around there.
Similar shot to the one before, this time with the sun a little further along
After the sunset
