admin@thepokerdb.com: a fun place to be

I get a lot of funny emails at the thepokerdb support email address (aka admin@thepokerdb.com). Usually it’s people who are having a login issue of some kind or they want to know why a tournament from the day before hasn’t been posted yet. Usually, I can direct people to the FAQ as most questions are answered there. But sometimes I get into some truly classic email conversations, the following being one of them. Read from top to bottom:

First message:

when i log in and submit my name for tourney results all i get is a list of tourneys for june 30th –I cannot view current status or total winnings–I have not been able to acsees any info since you redid your site to include party and tilt any help would be appreciated

Okay, so this guy is clicking on the “View Tournaments” link after typing in his name. Not the brightest bulb, but believe it or not, he’s like the 2nd or 3rd person to report this confusion, so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

My initial response:

Hah, you click on this thing http://www.thepokerdb.com/images/search.gif

Or you can just hit enter after you type in your name

So I thought that would be the end of it and I’d pass it off as another computer newbie donking his way along through the interweb. But then, a few days later, I get a response back.

His response:

“hah you click on this thing –took me nowhere–but ENTER worked just fine–ty”

And NOW I know why this guy couldn’t figure it out in the first place. He really believed that clicking on a GIF file link might somehow lead him to his page in thepokerdb. I’m not sure how some of these people figure out how to turn on a computer, let alone download PokerStars, deposit money and actually register for a tournament or two. But somehow it happens.

My response:

i can tell your internet skills aren’t the best.

here’s how you click on it.

1) type in the name
2) THEN click on it … it’s just below and to the right of the name box

just clicking on the image won’t do much

please go to computer school or something, this chain of emails is hilarious. i might
actually have to post this on my blog.

There’s a reason why poker is good these days.
