Entertaining TV

Other than studying, eating and sleeping, I’ve been doing some TV watching lately. Two shows that I’ve been spending a lot of time on are “Prison Break” and “Trailer Park Boys.” Prison Break is a well-known FOX drama whereas Trailer Park Boys is a not-so-well-known Canadian comedy.

I watched the first season of Prison Break via my Netflix subscription and now I’m a few episodes into season two via iTunes download. On a side note, the iTunes store is really a great resource. I know I might be incriminating myself here, but I used to be a serial “illegal” downloader because I didn’t want to buy full CDs when I only wanted one song. But now that iTunes is out there, I virtually never download music illegally. The only time that I can remember in the last few years is when I downloaded Tool’s “10,000 Days” CD when it was released online prior to being the stores — but I ended up buying it anyway. Getting back on track, the iTunes store is terrific and has all of the Prison Break episodes from season two, so I’m going to finish catching myself up this weekend.

The show itself is about a guy who intentionally gets thrown in a prison where his brother is on death row. His goal is to break them both out and it’s a pretty fascinating ride. I won’t spoil any of it here though.

On the other hand, Trailer Park Boys is a little harder to track down because episode availability in the USA is sparser. Netflix has some DVDs and there are some available via the links section on sites like this, but honestly, the best place to get them right now is off of BitTorrent. Obviously stay as legal as possible, but I don’t see any reason to deprive yourself of quality entertainment because the distribution is lacking.

The show is hard to describe… I guess the best thing to call it is just this: hilarious. Give it at least 5 episodes because character development is key.

Other good TV shows that I recommend include Lost and Arrested Development.
