more thepokerfilm stuff…
I swear I’ll stop posting about this at some point.
But a few things to announce.
First, from the site:
October 11, 2007, 1:33 am: release plans
We’ve revised our release plans. At one point, we were going to do 6 or 7 clips of 5 minutes. After getting feedback from numerous people and forums, we’ve decided to changed it up and make the rest of the film one large clip. What does this mean? It means we’re going to take a little longer to release everything. And we’re sorry about that. But we want this to be as widely seen as possible and the clip format just wasn’t going to work.
We are going to set an official release date in the near future. Stay tuned.
Second:
tbthanx sings about Genius 28 in his reddog133 voice. This song contains a number of inside jokes relating to conversations between tb and reddog, so not everything is going to make sense.

thepokerfilm: part one
This is the introductory clip.
You can also view it on the site here: http://www.thepokerfilm.com/video.php?id=2
Also, if you have a digg account, please digg the clip: http://digg.com/videos_people/thepokerfilm_part_one
I hope to get the next one out the door this weekend. They should be substantially more entertaining from here on out now that we’ve gotten the introduction part out of the way.
So, I was looking at thepokerfilm footage…
And I opened up the first file in the folder. This, apparently, is Eric’s “camera test” from before we started shooting.

It made me laugh.
On another note, I think we’ll be releasing our first clip very soon.
And congrats to Haligon for winning the Sunday Million on PokerStars.
New Theme
I am going to modify it a bit, but I wanted a really simple WordPress theme. And I also wanted one with a “fluid” width (ie, the content can expand horizontally) so I can post wider pictures.
So this is what I found. I think it’s very readable due to its simplicity, hopefully you feel the same way.
weekend update
So I ended up playing the $30 BLUFF Invitational office tournament and played a pretty standard tournament. I didn’t cash. No bad beats or huge suckouts, just normal poker where big hands didn’t go my way at the key times.
I skipped the Friday night poker to go instead to the 2p2 Atlanta meetup. I met ‘Chair, d10, Fast Food Knight (a girl? wtf?), GuyIncognito, mmb, jtown1010, Azizal, rutang, AEKDBet, Anacardo, ligastar and probably others that I’m forgetting. It was an interesting group of people that would probably (make that certainly) never get together if it wasn’t for 2p2. So it was unique in that manner.
Then I woke up today and headed up I-75 to “WhirlyBall” which is a game of bumper cars where you’re basically playing lacrosse with a wiffle ball. Pretty random combo and despite what you might think, it actually isn’t that much fun. The only fun part was getting up a lot of speed and hitting someone pretty hard (it wasn’t hard enough to hurt someone, but it did kinda jolt you when someone hit you with “full” speed). Also, the place we did it at was kind of a dump, so that didn’t help matters.
After WhirlyBall, I drove up to the house of one of the other owners of BLUFF, where we were going to play a bunch of poker and whatnot. He lives in an Atlanta suburb that’s a decent amount outside the 285 perimeter. It’s a very nice area with tons of nice houses, kids running around, nice cars, etc. The classical suburban neighborhood with UGA and USA flags hanging off most houses. Then when I pull up to his house, I see this:

Note that it isn’t actually something he drives regularly. His G sedan is poking into the picture. And his wife has a nice truck. But this is his “mudder” which he apparently doesn’t use much anymore and is probably going to sell. I just thought it was funny looking to have this quasi-monster truck with messed up paint and rust sitting in the middle of this neighborhood. Not only that, it has a bad transmission leak. His wife isn’t too happy about it as far as I know.
Anyway, we played some low limit cash games for a little while. I won a bunch, but mainly because I kept getting nice set up hands. Things like KK against JJ on a low board make it easy to win. Then they were running another tournament, so I decided to leave. I was planning on going out to Athens for Part Two, but I felt pretty tired and just wasn’t up to the task of staying up and drinking for most of the night, especially after a 2 hour drive out there. So I went back to my neighborhood and watched the Stanford-USC and Florida-LSU games with a bunch of people on a huge screen (my friend has a projector with a 100″ screen and a 50″ XRD right below it). Those were great games and I’m pretty happy with my decision to skip the party. It would have been fun most of the time, just not tonight for me.
Edit:

In other news, the “Bluff Invitational” is Friday and Saturday. This means that like 40 extra people are going to be in the office later today (Friday) and there are a bunch of activities going on. Some include poker playing, a BBQ and WhirlyBall (I hadn’t heard of it either) — I don’t really feel like typing out an explanation of what WhirlyBall is. I’ll take some pics/video and post them on Sunday most likely.
Also, Friday night is a 2+2 Atlanta meetup. It looks like there will be 10-15 Atlanta-area 2+2ers there and I’m excited to put some faces to the names. Luckily it’s at an apartment less than 5 minutes from mine, so I kinda lucked out, especially considering how big the Atlanta area is. I’ll take pics and video there too.
Lastly, Saturday night is Team Domeski Part Two. Which is basically another party like the last one which we filmed as part of the documentary. I won’t be filming a ton of this one, but I’ll bring my digital camera and see what I get. I’m sure there will be entertaining moments.
Whew, it’s going to be a busy weekend. Plus Florida/LSU and OU/Texas (blowout waiting to happen). So much stuff.
