New Verizon Aircard
I used to have the old PC5740. I bought it in October 2005 and it was great at the time.
For some reason, I’ve put off upgrading my card — I just don’t follow the EVDO world all that closely even though I use my Verizon card all the time.
So anyway, I finally upgraded to one of these.

It’s like a whole new world browsing on this compared to my old Verizon card. This thing is barely distinguishable from a cable modem for most tasks. I’m sure something like BitTorrent would be slow, but for email, web browsing, messaging, etc, this is much much more functional than the old card. It has something to do with Verizon’s “Rev A” or “Revision A” technology (basically a faster EVDO network), but I haven’t looked into the technical details much.
All I know is that if you’re a poker player, one of these is a TERRIFIC investment as a backup internet connection, road wireless and possibly even complete internet replacement someday (it’s isn’t QUITE there yet, but I could probably get by with this if I had to).

To answer one question: no, it won’t switch over automatically. If you have multiple network connections active your poker client will pick one and keep using it. If the connection dies, it may switch over to other active connections, but it will disconnect you from the site and reconnect you. You can hasten this process by disabling the broken connection and restarting your poker client manually. You’d probably make it back if you had disconnect protect and knew that you had been disconnected.
Now, I gotta ask a question. I used one of these on the Sprint network and I thought it was kinda cool. The downstream is pretty bad, but the upstream is quite nice. I think not only did you have to pay for the modem, but also it was $60 a month for unlimited access. How much is this modem? How’s the upstream/downstream on their network? How much is the service per month?

Quick question:
Can I just plug this into my desktop and it will automatically switch over if my normal connection is interrupted? Any chance it will switch over in time to save hands if I’m playing?
Thanks
