Poker Forum Traffic etc
I have a couple of things to talk about…
First, I put up a new site. It’s called Poker Forum Traffic. The site tracks and ranks the biggest poker forums online using the “posts per day” criteria. The site is literally brand new — 24 hours ago I was still doing testing and it wasn’t even online and live. Now it’s online, although there are still TONS of potential bugs that could occur. Don’t be surprised if you look at the page and we’re saying that some forum has 3 million posts a day… there are lots of things that could be causing that sort of problem. But we’ve eliminated *most* of the critical errors and the site is functioning reasonably well most of the time. Over the next few days and weeks we’ll be adding a lot of functionality to the site, along with putting in safeguards and measures to ensure that potential bugs are dealt with properly. And of course we have to fill in some of the missing data (shown as “n/a”) while also adding a lot more forums. If you’re a member of a poker forum community that is not on the current list of 15, please leave me a comment and I’ll look into getting your forum added. No promises on any specific forum, but I would like to eventually have 50+ poker forums on the site. It could be a good traffic source for your site down the road!
Mainly, the reason I made the site is because I was curious. I didn’t know how 2p2 compared to P5s and how P5s compared to other smaller forums. Of course, posts per day is not the most important thing (people could just be posting crap over and over) when it comes to the “best” poker forum, but it’s really the best overall indicator of how much content is being put onto a forum on a daily basis. It also gives a rough approximation of relative traffic, although obviously some forums could have wildly variant lurker/poster types of ratios.
Anyway, please help me get the word out on Poker Forum Traffic. Post about it on your blog, link to it on forums, etc, etc. I appreciate any help on that front — but, of course, only do it if you think it’s interesting. I’d like to make it into the Poker Site Scout of the poker forum world. Obviously it has a long way to go but it’s on its way.
Moving on, I’m getting settled in here in Costa Rica. I’ve got a condo that I’m living in now and I finally got a car today. It took forever to get the car thing done and I’ve been bumming rides off of people for awhile now, so it’s nice to finally be independent once again. It had been a long time since I’d had to think about getting rides and organizing my schedule around other people. While doing that isn’t nearly as bad as I would have thought a few months ago, it isn’t pleasant and I’m glad it’s over with.
Also, in little less than a month, the LAPT Costa Rica will be taking place. I’m pretty excited to finally have an event in Costa Rica. It’s awesome that PokerStars is doing it and I’m sure they’re going to do a great job with it. I can’t wait to see all of the people that will be down here. My friend Eric from thepokerfilm will be down here for a few weeks in that timespan so it’s going to be an overall fun time then. It’s kind of weird to be away from my normal group of friends here, so it will be nice to be around a lot of familiar faces. Let me know if you’re a blog reader and you’re going to be here — we can all go have a drink or two at some point.
I’ll be posting more about my “big” project soon. The poker forum traffic site is a smaller project right now, but it’s off the ground so I figured I should let people know about it.
