Aruba Stuff
I’m just wrapping up this trip to Aruba. stevesbets left a little while ago, so I’m on my own until my flight tomorrow. A few notes from the week…
- One afternoon Steve and I spent a few hours in the pool with Taylor (Green Plastic), Stinger, LatestLines2, some guy from Cornell who was friends with Stinger and maybe someone else. I don’t remember anyone else. But, if you follow online poker forums (specifically 2+2 NVG), then you know that Steve doesn’t exactly respect Stinger’s PLO game. And you probably also know that Steve has a certain reputation in the high stakes world for a being a bit tilty in chat at times. So basically it consisted of us being in the pool for a few hours while Steve ranted and tilted on his favorite subjects (CardRunners, CTS, Stinger, lucky poker players, Urindanger, etc). Live tilting, especially when a favorite subject (Stinger) is present, is very entertaining.
- I was in the casino the other night and heard “Last call for NioNio, NioNio 5/10 NL.” THAT was funny. I’ve been told that the entire hotel was reserved for people related to the APC (dealers, players, management, staff, etc), so I’m sure a number of people in the casino thought it was pretty funny.
- I’m a little tilted I still haven’t gone parasailing. At this point I probably won’t because I want to go work out and spend some time on the beach. I guess I’ll have to either do that somewhere else or put it high on the list next year.
- I’m not sure how many people here actually watched it, but Steve and I made a point to watch the VP Debate last night. Sarah Palin is utterly absurd. I normally don’t mix in politics on my blog, but I cannot respect her ability to lead a country after her interviews and her debate. Not to mention that her own campaign doesn’t respect her and has kept her largely locked up and away from questions. I couldn’t believe how many times she said maverick. Do campaign strategists honestly believe that blatant repetition of talking points is a good strategy? It’s so obvious. Whatever… I don’t get it.
- There’s a really good Italian place right across the street from the Radisson Aruba. If you ever come here, be sure to go. Great dishes and great desserts, highly recommended.
- The casino here is pretty absurd. Steve was playing craps (obv) and he wanted to actually throw the dice a little. As opposed to just rolling them. He was playing pretty close to table limits and they actually told him he couldn’t play craps if he wanted to throw the dice. Keep in mind that he was keeping the dice on the table. The casino just wouldn’t let him throw the dice. Does that make any sense? How dumb are casinos? This is probably one of their biggest gambling weeks of the year with all of the degens in town and here they are turning down action from a big craps player. Yup.
- Overall I’m pretty happy with the location. The beach is great. As I stated, there’s good food closeby and even here at the resort. The service is pretty good, although the Conceirge is non-existant. It’s not easy to get help in the lobby at all. The pools are very nice and they aren’t too crowded. Another benefit compared to Atlantis is that there are way less families with kids around. I can’t even remember seeing a single family around. That’s one thing that really bugs me at Atlantis. I basically feel like I’m at Disney World when I’m at the PCA with all of the families around. In addition to all of that, it’s also nice that things are slightly less expensive here than at the PCA and that little things like the internet are free. Of course, the internet kind of sucks sometimes, but that’s another story…
I guess that’s it. Time to head out for the day.
