Trip to the beach

Okay — this blog update is a full week late. I’ve been really busy and I’ve been working really hard on the weight loss stuff. I also randomly lose and gain motivation to blog a lot. Anyway, last weekend I went on a trip to the beach in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. We left early Saturday (6 AM) and returned Sunday afternoon, so it wasn’t a really long trip, but it was fun. We went out on WaveRunners on Saturday afternoon and sat by the pool for most of the day. Here’s a picture of what our days by the pool looked like:

Pretty nice eh? It’s the Doubletree Hilton in Puntarenas if you’re ever looking for a place to go in Costa Rica. It was a very nice place to hang out and it was very cheap (like $130) for a night there and all-inclusive meals + unlimited drinks at the bars for two days. The downside? It is Costa Rica’s rainy season. Check out this video that I took on Saturday afternoon from the food area:

It was an all-out downpour. But that’s what it does during the rainy season in Costa Rica. The good news is that it does that for like 1 hour or less, then it gets sunny again. So it doesn’t bother me too much — we were back out at the pool in <1 hour.

The drive back was pretty crazy. There was an accident on the main road that we took out there (it was about 2 hours to get there), so we had to take an alternate way back. We ended up on this bridge over a raging river. A little scary…

But we also stopped for a quick bite at this little place on the side of the road in an area called Quitirrisi. The view was really amazing.

The whole ride back ended up being like 3-4 hours, but we did stop and make a wrong turn at one point, so it probably would have been 3 if we did everything correctly and gone straight through.

I think I’m going to the beach again this weekend, so I’m definitely looking forward to that. If the trip ends up happening as planned, there’s a spot with a 35 foot cliff jump. I’m not sure if I have the balls to do that, but I’m leaning towards doing it. If I do, I’ll make sure to have someone get video of it so I have it for the blog next week.

Also, my sister really wants me to post pictures of our respective neighbors. This is my neighbor:

I can see that guy out the back of my condo. They have two horses running around back there and I’ve named them “Horse 1″ and “Horse 2″. They don’t make noise and they don’t smell, so I don’t mind them. It’s actually nice to be in a quiet area without a lot of road noise.

And my sister, who is living in Uganda for a few months this fall, sent me this picture of her neighbor — she claims her neighbor can beat up my neighbor. I think I agree with her.

That bull has crazy eyes. I wouldn’t want to get anywhere near him actually. Poor horse wouldn’t stand a chance.  Pretty crazy for two suburban kids from Philadelphia to be living in such close proximity to farm animals!
